AGWCS is a non-profit organization registered with city government. The school was established in 1994, and since then for 13 years, serving community by teaching Chinese language, Chinese art and Chinese culture, and involvement of other important community activities. Started with 60 students in 1994, the AGWCS currently has over 400 students enrolled, making it the largest Chinese language school in the Austin/Round Rock areas.
AGWCS adheres the same school calendar as Austin school district. Each school year has two semesters. The 2008 fall semester has 14 2-hour classes and the 2009 spring semester has 16 2-hour classes.
Besides teaching the Chinese language, Chinese schools serve as social centers allowing Chinese immigrants and their children to meet other Chinese families.
AGWCS is operated by volunteers and its financial support is mainly from tuition. The school opens from 2:00pm-5:45pm on Sunday. The first two hours are devoted to language learning followed by cultural activities including Chinese arts and sports. Special classes are offered for children and adults of non-Chinese descent to learn Chinese as a second language. The school strives to continue making AGWCS the place for students to learn Chinese language and culture, respect, and responsibility.
AGWCS also hosts a Chinese New Year Celebration Party every year, which is a great place to children and adults to celebrate Chinese cultures and look forward to another upcoming properious year.
The registration for 2008-2009 school year will open at July 28, 2008. Please stay tuned.
